Supporting Every Learner: Intervention Programmes at Manurewa South School

At Manurewa South School, we are committed to helping every student succeed. We understand that students learn in different ways and may need extra support at various times during their educational journey. That’s why we have developed a comprehensive system of academic and social interventions to ensure all students make meaningful progress.

How We Identify Students Who Need Support

Through our rigorous assessment and continuous monitoring, we are able to quickly identify students who may be at risk of falling behind. Our teachers and support staff use a variety of tools to assess student progress and performance throughout the year, including:

• Regular in-class assessments

• Standardised testing

• Teacher observations

• Progress monitoring tools

This pro-active approach allows us to respond early and effectively when a student begins to show signs of difficulty.

Our Intervention Programmes

Once a student is identified as needing additional support, we offer tailored interventions designed to meet their individual needs. These may include:

• Small Group Instruction: Focused teaching in small groups to target specific skills in reading, writing, or math.

• One-to-One Support: Personalised sessions with a teacher or support staff member to address specific learning gaps.

• In-Class Support: Additional help from teaching assistants or specialist staff within the classroom environment.

• Learning Support Plans with our SENCO teacher: Structured plans that outline specific goals, strategies, and regular review points to track progress.

• Collaboration with Specialists: Access to speech and language therapists, RTLB, counsellors, or other professionals as needed.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is essential for student success. If your child is identified as needing additional support, you will be involved every step of the way. This includes:

• Meetings to discuss your child’s needs and the support being provided

• Regular updates on progress

• Strategies you can use at home to reinforce learning
